I’ve been looking for a dairy-free yogurt with low (or no) sugar, and I finally found Cashewgurt from the Forager Project. I’m really loving this one because it has a slight tang like traditional greek yogurt, and the texture is very smooth and creamy. It’s dairy, soy, and gluten free, as well as organic.
The ingredients are:
Cashewmilk (Filtered Water, Cashews), Tapioca Starch, Pectin, Coconut Cream, Locust Bean Gum, Agar, Live Active Cultures (S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus, Bifidus, L. Lactis, L. Plantarum)
Each 5.3 ounce cup contains 110 calories, 7 grams fat, 3 grams protein, 9 grams carbohydrates, and 1 gram sugar.
My favorite way to eat this is with some fresh, chopped fruit and a sprinkle of this gluten free, vegan granola. I’ve also used it with success in baked goods and for dairy free sauces.
The downside to this yogurt is that it’s a bit pricier than traditional yogurts. I paid $5.99 for a 24 ounce container, and the small five ounce containers were $1.99 at Big Y. The pros outweigh the price for me, so it’s become a weekly dairy-free staple in our house.
